Last Christmas My inlaws bought a beautiful new TV. A High Def TV that made Hubs salivate. They wanted the TV becuase in our town we have only one cable provider. If you do not want to get cable through them, you need to get satellite TV. And a lot of satellite channels are in High-Def.

My In laws, decided three days ago to do just that. They paid 250 for the set up, the boxes, dish and what have you. When they went to the satellite store, the woman used a permanent marker on a sheet of paper and marked all of the channels that my In laws would receive with the package they ordered.

Seemed like a pretty good deal.

Fast forward a day. The man comes, installs the satellite and tells them it will take one to two hours to get the signal fully downloaded (or something like that). They waited the hours and then Hubs went over to help them get everything programmed and working right. The problem? Even though the lady at the desk told them they would have over 290 channels with their package, they were only getting 17.

Yeah. 17.

So my inlaws drove back into the city the next morning to have a chat with the woman – keep in mind they have only had the satellite for one day. The woman said yeah, you get all of these channels with your package, but you have to subscribe to them for 3.99 a set. Uhm. What? If you tell someone they will get 290 channels, if you circle the channels for them, and say this is what you get for what you are paying, you cannot go back and say, but wait – you need to pay X amount more to subscribe to them!

That’s considered a rip off.

So, the inlaws canceled their satellite after a day and a half, totally disgusted, AND out $250, because the satellite company has a clause in the contract saying that if you cancel withing one year, the equiptment goes back to them.

So. WE won;t be getting satellite, that’s for sure, but I can also guarantee that Hubs will still be looking at tv deals so that he can find a good priced High-def Television. it seems that not only do the newer channels all come in High def, so do his games!
