When L and I got to the school, his class door was still shut, but not more than five minutes past before his teacher, Mrs. F arrived and ushered us all in. L found his wee little locker and hung up his coat, he switched his “outside shoes” for his “inside shoes” and gave Mrs. F the required box of Kleenex. The kids were all told to look around, then choose a book and sit on the blue rug and wait for teacher.

L was impressed with all of the toys the class had. He was very enthused in particular about some jumbo blocks. They look like lego bricks but were easily the size of my cat. And the cat is FAT, remember!

There are sixteen children in L’s class, from three years old to five years old. Some of them were obviously scared and worried, but most of them were very pleased to be going to School.

On the way to the school, I had asked L, “What do you want to learn at school this year” He told me “I want to learn songs,” he was quiet for a minute before he continued, “and I want to learn how to write my name”

On a more somber note, Why do all my children hate me? No really. How hard is it for them to just PRETEND to be sad that i am leaving them all alone at the school? not one of my boys was sad the first day of school. I knew L was excited to be going to Pre-K, but come ON! He’s just four years old! I mean, I don;lt want him crying and scared, but at least say “I will miss you mommy”, not, “Go home, I need to learn and you are in my way!”
