Happy Birthday Canada

Funny story about this date. When I was a little girl, my parents would always load us up for a few weeks in the summer and take us north to see our grandparents. Usually, this occurred in the first week of July. We would all go down to the lake and watch the fireworks – and when I was little? Fireworks scared me! A Lot!

My dad would tell me not to be scared, that all of this was for me, to celebrate MY birthday. That all of these people were here, the fireworks, the balloons and picnics were all for me. And I believed him.

See, Canada Day is the day before my birthday, and even though I am now old enough to know that they are two different celebrations, I still like to look up at the night sky, at the fireworks bursting to life, and imagine all of those people out there, celebrating ME!
